Meyer Planetarium

You can see clearly the brilliant night time heavens and feel like you are sitting outside at the Meyer Planetarium

Down through the ages, the majestic silence of the stars has inspired not only scientific scrutiny but also some of the world’s loveliest poetry and music. People have found in the vastness of the universe a source of profound thought.

Even in these days of smog-filled skies there is a place where one may still see clearly the brilliant night time heavens. Within reach of almost everyone in Birmingham and surrounding areas, is the Meyer Planetarium. In spite of the fact that the planetarium sky is an artificial sky, one feels that he is sitting outdoors and looking up at the stars.

A gift to Birmingham-Southern College from the Robert Meyer Foundation, the Planetarium has received thousands of visitors since its dedication in 1964.

The Robert R. Meyer Planetarium is located on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College. To get to us take the exit from I-20 / I59 at Arkadelphia Road (exit #123) and follow the signs to Birmingham-Southern College.

Planetarium Hours are Monday - Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm .

For show information please call (205) 226-4771 or the Planetarium office at 226-4770, or visit our website.
